Dear XC-Open pilots,  The 2011 Manilla XC-Camp is a friendly get together and fly together meeting for all pilots who like to fly far.

Many of you know the flying site and have been there, for those who don’t:
Mt. Borah near Manilla in Australia is one of the best XC-flying sites in the World. It has 4 huge astro-turf-covered launches for practically every wind direction and you can also fly XC in almost every direction there. Since the 2007 Manilla World Championships there is a 2-Wheel-Drive road to the top as well. On Nov.16 1998 Godfrey Wenness flew an Open Distance World Record of 335 km from Mt. Borah. Today, 12 years later, his flight is still the Australian National Record.

You can register now for the 2011 Manilla XC-Camp and don't have to pay any entry fee! We will add some spice to this first Manilla XC-Camp and give all pilots who register free of charge scoring. The scoring will be online scoring, similar to many Online Contests, but with the difference that only flights of registered pilots who fly from Mt. Borah during these 11 days of the 2011 Manilla XC-Camp will be scored. Upload your flight to the online scoring website and you will immediately see it in the preliminary results of the day! There will also be daily reports - send us your words and a picture if you made a special flight or had an interesting retrieve - we will publish it.

We will also have some social events for the pilots. "Talks at the camp fire" or a BBQ at the Royal Hotel with live music (pay for your food and drinks) and also expert advice on flying from Mt. Borah and good XC-routes to take and more. As a registered pilot we will keep you updated. Read more

We will get some T-Shirts made as well. Here is the design (can you see the Kangaroo made of paragliders?)

Dear Manilla XC-Camp pilots,

The dates for the 11 day 2011 Manilla XC-Camp in Australia are coming closer. The XC-Camp will take place from Jan.24-Feb.03. If you have not registered yet, you can still do it here. Participation in the 2011 Manilla XC-Camp is free of charge – NO ENTRY FEE.

The XC-Camp is a free flying event, a meeting of like-minded pilots who all like to fly Cross Country as far as they can to reach their personal best.
It’s not a traditional competition with a competition director and tasks, it’s more like an online contest for a limited, defined period of time with everybody taking off from the same mountain.
Your safety will entirely depend on your own organization. We strongly recommend that you only fly in a retrieve team and communicate with each other. There will be daily XC and weather briefings by local expert Godfrey Wenness.

If you are not organized in a group yet and/or you are looking for a driver. It’s best to contact Vicky at the Royal Hotel by phone.

Scoring is done online, similar to XC-Australia.
Andreas Rieck will give a power point demonstration and briefing on Sunday 23 January at 20:00 in the RSL in Manilla for those who are not familiar with online scoring and creating an IGC file from their GPS tracklog. Please note: to be scored you are responsible yourself to download the tracklog from your GPS and to create a valid IGC file.
So don't forget to bring your GPS cable as well to dump your GPS tracklog at your own notebook or your mates computer.
We recommend to use the free software GpsDump or MaxPunkte. Even easier to use is Durval Henke’s (organizer of XC-Brasil) Baldok’s Tool.
After you have created and saved the IGC file from your flights tracklog on a computer you need to upload it to the scoring website. This is a very easy process, which doesn’t need further explanation.

The results of the Manilla XC-Camp will count towards the overall score of the 2011 XC-Open World Series, which consists of 4 events.

For all other information and answers to your questions about the Manilla XC-Camp have a look at the website and visit the briefing in the RSL.

If you are a visiting pilot and not a member of the Australian Association, you are asked by the HGFA to obtain a visiting pilots membership. All info how to get VPM you can find here

Mylinh from Vietnam has again made a very nice design for a XC-Camp T-Shirt. These T-Shirts can be ordered for delivery in Manilla from Godfrey
Pilots from Europe and North America can also order more different styles and colours of T-Shirts from our T-Shirt shop They will be delivered to your address.

Some pilots from Europe have booked inexpensive flights to Australia (below 1100 Euro) with China Eastern airlines. If you are still looking for a flight, it’s worth to check with them.

See you soon in Manilla
