What’s happening in the AIR (is it safe for me), is the MAN making the right decisions and skilled enough, and is the SHIP suitable.

Once you have learned to fly your plane, it is far less fatiguing to fly than it is to drive a car. Within all of us is a varying amount of space lint and star dust, the residue from our creation. Most are too busy to notice it, and it is stronger in some than others. Learning to fly by Pink Floyd
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I
Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unleadened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension, is learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I
Friction lock... Set... Mixture... Rich propellers... Fully forward flaps... Set... Ten degrees...
Full gauges and suction - check
Gas set to maximum percent - recheck
Flight instruments...
Altimeters - check both
Navigation lights - on
(garbled word that seems "patater") - on
Strobes on
Confirm 3-8 Echo ready for departure
Hello again, this is now 129.4
129.4, its to go.
You make commence your take-off, winds over 10 knots.
Easy on the brakes. Take it easy, it's gonna roll this time: just hand the power gradually, and it...
Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled

Learning To Fly by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Well I started out down a dirty road
Started out all alone
And the sun went down as I crossed the hill
And the town lit up, the world got still
I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing
Well the good ol' days may not return
And the rocks might melt and the sea may burn
I'm learning to fly (learning to fly)
But I ain't got wings (learning to fly)
Coming down (learning to fly)
Is the hardest thing (learning to fly)
Well some say life will beat you down
Break your heart, steal your crown
So I've started out for God knows where
I guess I'll know when I get there
I'm learning to fly around the clouds
But what goes up (learning to fly)
must come down (learning to fly)
I'm learning to fly (learning to fly)
but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing
I'm learning to fly (learning to fly)
around the clouds
But what goes up (learning to fly)
Must come down
I'm learning to fly (learning to fly)
(Learning to fly)
I'm learning to fly
(Learning to fly)
(Learning to fly)
(Learning to fly)
(Learning to fly)

Learn to Fly by the Foo Fighters
Run and tell all of the angels
This could take all night
Think I need a devil to help me get things right
Hook me up a new revolution
Cause this one is a lie
We sat around laughing and watched the last one die
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of lying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly high
I think I'm done nursing the patience
It can wait one night
I'd give it all away if you give me one last try
We'll live happily ever trapped if you just save my life
Run and tell the angels that everything is alright
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright
I'm looking for a complication
Looking cause I'm tired of trying
Make my way back home when I learn to fly high
Make my way back home when I learn to. . .
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone
Try and make this life my own (and)
Fly along with me, I can't quite make it alone
Try and make this life my own. . .
I'm looking to the sky to save me
Looking for a sign of life
Looking for something to help me burn out bright

Learning to Fly by Hilary Duff
In a moment everything can change
Feel the wind on your shoulder
For a minute all the world can wait
Let go of your yesterday
Can you hear it calling?
Can you feel it in your soul?
Can you trust this longing and take control?
[CHORUS]
Fly
Open up the part of you that wants to hide away
You can shine
Forget about the reasons why you can't in life
and start to try 'cus it's your time, time to fly
All your worries, leave them somewhere else
Find a dream you can follow
Reach for something when there's
nothing left and the world's feeling hollow
Can you hear it calling?
Can you feel it in your soul?
Can you trust this longing and take control?
[CHORUS]
Fly
Open up the part of you that wants to hide away
You can shine
Forget about the reasons why you can't in life
and start to try 'cus it's your time, time to fly
And when you're down and feeling low,
just want to run away
Trust yourself and don't give up
You know you better than anyone else
In a moment everything can change
Feel the wind on your shoulder

Learning to Fly by Emerson, Lake & Powell
Jungles where the tigers sleep
The neon glares
And talk is cheap
Stairways that lead to dreams
You turn around
A siren screams
Energy glows in the heart of the city
You stand in the shadows or reach for the sky
This time the promise is not just illusion
I'm heading for glory, I'm learning to fly
Out there you feel the heat
It's face to face, I cross the street
Help me I've done a fare
I need a ride
So take me there
Everything's moving out of the city
They murder with kisses and then wonder why
Everyone's looking out over their shoulder
We've all gotta jump so I'm learning to fly
I see a figure there, look back at me
I stand and stare
Searching for sanity
To break the force of gravity
Learning to fly
Learning to fly
Learning to fly
Jungles where the tigers sleep
The neon glares
And talk is cheap
Stairways that lead to dreams
You turn around

Learning How To Fly by Tuck & Patti
When your heart is low feel the breezes blow
It's all right you just take your time
There's no hurry now that you're on your way
When you're learning how to fly
No more wandering 'round, step up off the ground
You will find you can glide on by
There's a magic place that is just for you
When you're learning how to fly
Chorus:
You've always known that this was not your home
You've been longing for that place
Where you would not feel so all alone
Well now that time has come for you to fly away
Just breathe on in then breathe on out
And you'll be on your way
Watch the ocean rise, say your sad good-byes
Don't be shy, go ahead and cry
There's a light to guide and you're really on your way
Now you're learning how to fly
Now you are flying, rising, floating
Sailing on this blissful ocean
Everything you've always wanted now
Learning how to fly
Freedom comes while you are soaring
Far away from cares and longing
Take this moment, open up your eyes
You're learning how to fly
Repeat chorus
You are higher now, feeling lighter now
So much joy, you just have to go
Feel the greatest love that you've ever ever known
When you're learning how to fly
You are higher now, feeling lighter now
So much joy, you just have to go
Feel the greatest love you have ever known
When you're leaning how to fly
Now you're learning how to fly
You are learning how to fly
When your heart is low feel the breezes blow
It's all right you just take your time

... what is the difference between the high performance gliders compared to the entry level?
... this has always been an easy answer; higher performance equals higher pilot workload and higher workload equals higher experience levels. Pilots find this out the hard way if they're flying a glider above their ability the second they hit seriously active air and discover their reactions and inputs are simply not enough. This is not a nice place to be.
